TikTok for Children

Why ban children when you can allow them on your platform and limit what they search? Because despite the ban, children are gonna find ways to go on TikTok again. Why not allow them on, and let them view only certain contents, discreetly. I think that'll be cool. Almost all kids possess a smart phone. And almost all of them are on TikTok. Let them view educational content. Let them learn one of the ways they know how.  Lots of love, Brienne, 29 March 2022, 8.50 p.m.

How do you speak to yourself?

Marisa Peer says the language we use to speak with ourselves is very important. There's a 4% chance of getting into the football club. You gotta think, "I'm in the 4%".  There's a 20% chance of surviving this complicated surgery. You gotta think "I'm in the 20%"  [To know more, listen to it here ]   I noticed that my daily writings are basically me speaking to myself. I typed "You need to learn to do what's best for your body, your health, your career. Make the wise decisions. Treat yourself as your best friend. Write what you're working on. What did you learn today?" Yesterday, I learnt that I value writing. I wrote even after coming home from a very late night. I also like looking at what I thought at that time. I went ahead and published the  draft on my main page.  I learnt that you could very much lose yourself in a relationship when you love someone. You got to find the balance.  These questions helped me find my center and

Everybody's looking at me!

I told my mother I was shy because everyone would be looking at me. She said,  "Don't flatter yourself darling, you think anybody downstairs is interested in you? They're not.  Your job is to go and make them happy" And I brought my guitar and went down and sing. And from that day on, I was no longer the center of attention. You're the center of mine. From  The Art of Being Yourself | Caroline McHugh | TEDxMiltonKeynesWomen --- There's so many things stopping us from doing what we want to do. We're afraid people would laugh at us, people would judge. But everyone is only worried about themselves.  You do your own thing. And look at who would laugh. Even if they do, you lived your life the way you want to.  You lived out your dreams. Wanna do something?  Just do it.  Even if you fail, you know at least you tried.  If you don't try, you'll just be imagining for the rest of your life.  Love, Brienne, 23 March 2022, 9.10 p.m.

Questions for you

Would you make yourself happy if you know you could? Would you try to live out your dreams if you know you could? Would you let others stop you? --- Shared my dreams with a friend this afternoon.  They were so huge it took a while before my words came out of my mouth.  Can I do it? What steps am I taking to make it happen? Life is not just about living day by day.  Life is about thriving, making the best out if it, getting out of bed ready to work for something you believe in.  What do you believe in? What are you willing to work hard for? What shit sandwich are you willing to eat? Or, what will you accept in your life? Love,  Brienne, 21 March 2022, 9.49 p.m.

The silverfish and its purpose

Am in the midst of KonMari-ing my stuff.  Wanted to keep some study notes to look at in the future. You know those where you love the module so you put a lot of effort into making handwritten pretty notes and you can't bear to part with them.  Then, I saw a silverfish crawling among one stack.  Just like that, I threw away 2 huge boxes of study notes. Not a second look even for those with elaborate mind maps drawn.  Books that were kept together went to the trash too. How can you keep them when more silverfish can be among them? I'm glad I saw the silverfish today.  Love,  Brienne, 19 March 2022, 9.54 p.m.

Embrace the suck

Ali Abdaal says you gotta embrace the suck, get going before you get good .  That's why I continue to write everyday to hone my writing skills to be a better writer in time to come. Updated the link for the Feng Shui expert and went down the rabbit hole looking at the different captions to inspire me to make my space more conducive for me.  Still have trouble letting go of stuff.  I want to give myself nice things.  I deserve the best.  There are really many things I hang on to because I bought them myself or was a gift from someone which I haven't used.  --- How do you start giving yourself the best? What do people do to give themselves the best?  Love, Brienne, 17 March 2022, 10.16 p.m.

Buy the all-new iPad Air!

I love shopping at Apple. I love how I went there to collect an iPhone and came out wanting to get the all-new iPad Air .  --- Just the Notes app allows you to do so many things! Did you know you could draw perfect shapes using the Apple pen? Just draw it as usual and hold your pen on the iPad for 2 seconds.  Hate lag time while drawing or writing?  The iPad Air lets you do it seamlessly. Like to drag and drop from various apps?  The new iPad Air allows you to open multiple apps on a single screen! Love doing video calls? You're gonna do it all the time now with the Centre Stage feature. The camera automatically pans to you to keep you centred in the shot. Plus! The view expands or zooms in when others join or leave the frame! Mind blown.  Tell me you're not as impressed as I am.  Don't just take my words for it.  Head on down to your nearest Apple store now! Love,  Brienne, 18 March 2022, 9.44 p.m.

"I'm 100 percent sure you take things for granted." "Yeah, but..."

As human beings, we take things for granted.  Got a bad ache in my back after spending the whole day seated on the floor yesterday. Then I thought of how I haven't completed the Traditional Chinese Medicine course on Coursera .  /Check out Coursera for courses you can take up right now, for free! I took up the course because I wanted to have something to rely on other than western medicine.  I could guess I was probably wanting to take a long term approach because of some ailments I had back then. Slowly, I recovered and the course was the last thing on my mind. The pain in my back made me want to listen to a health related podcast today.  Mark Bell's Power Project: Episode 691 - Barefoot Sprinter Graham Tuttle Weak Feet = Huge Problem, This is How to Strengthen Them Some snippets that I enjoyed.  "You need to assess the people you keep very close to. Some people you can't but you need to limit the amount of time you allow that energy." "If a process is not a

Have you tried the KonMari method?

My room is still a mess but I feel so satisfied. The stuff in my drawers got a breath of fresh air before they go back to their locations neatly folded.  New and old clothes that I kept thinking I'd wear in the future, were donated or put up for sale.  Items that were hidden at the back of drawers get to come out and show themselves.  I even found a few items that were meant to be gifts for people. They were stacked and hidden and I wouldn't have remembered them if I didn't pack today.  --- I didn't realise how hard it would be to throw stuff away.  Until I changed my mindset to: Items that hold space meant no space for new stuff.  Why do I keep things that no longer bring me joy? Perhaps I wanted to remember how much joy they used to bring me. But I was no longer feeling happy looking at them. Just like things, thought and ideas that no longer serve us need to be thrown away.  Are there any thoughts that no longer deserve space in your mind? Share them with me! /ideas

What is one thing you can do right now to get more opportunities in your life?

I look at the things I've strewn all over the bedroom. It's so messy.  It annoys me everyday that these things are still there and I need to find time to deal with them. It doesn't take up a lot of time but sometimes it just takes so much of me to do these tasks.  I like what  Feng Shui expert Amanda  said in one of her posts.  "Clutter is not love. Even if we think it's worth something or it might come in handy later. The truth is, clutter costs us precious energy, physically, psychologically and emotionally. The remedy is to clean and declutter our surroundings  intentionally.  Pay attention to anything you won't buy again today. Notice what you cling to out of guilt and fear - you know, the what ifs.  Be objective about what you keep because of its perceived value. Be mindful about what you hold on to because deep down, you worry life won't get better.  "Better" here doesn't exclusively mean nicer things either; instead, "better"

Be yourself?

Often, we hear parents advice their young ones "just be yourself". But the word 'just' makes it seem so easy to be yourself. How exactly do we do that?  From the age of seven, we learn to live by societal norms. Wear the uniform with a white pair of shoes, study certain subjects at school.  When I was in primary school, I remember wanting to be an artist. I learnt how to make fruit stamps at school and continued making my own at home and filling many drawing block sheets with different designs.  Then, I would proudly show my parents my 'new' creation. A paper bag with flower patterns made from the cross section of a lady's finger vegetable. A card with repeated patterns from a certain brush stroke. Dad was busy so I'll run to Mom. She told me, "Art will not make you money when you're alive. Don't waste time. Go and study."  That bothered me. I stopped creating art since.  I used to love to sing too. Afternoons were spent watching MTV

Thoughts on writing

What if there is one thing that makes you stand out from other people?  Will you take the courage and use this unique ability or will you cower in fear and be afraid that this trait is uniquely yours? I love writing. But I don't know what's important.  But I want to help just one reader learn something new each day. And there's definitely something new to learn everyday.  What did I learn today that I did not yesterday? It's easy to type away on a post you're not going to publish today. This process that I created takes the hard part out of writing and stressing about whether it'll be a good piece.  Right now, I cannot remember what I wrote yesterday. But I sure hope I did ok and I want to make sure I wrote a good piece.  Love, Brienne, 12 March 2022, 9.04 p.m.

Do you deserve what you want?

How to have the best day when you're on sick leave. Read, meditate, learn something new, watch the clouds, capture birds on photos.  I meditated to a new track by Saqib Rizvi. I've linked it  here . There's a portion on setting intentions. Starting with the words "I desire to..." and completing the sentence.  I found I was unable to put a large numerical value. Thoughts of being greedy surfaced in my head. I struggled to repeat it thrice as instructed.  Perhaps I felt I was undeserving of that monetary value with what I was doing right now.  Thinking it was something that I can achieve in the future made it more believable.  Perhaps that is why manifestations don't come as quickly as we like them to.  We are afraid. Some of us are. Of the magnificence or vastness of our desires.  It's interesting how I noticed that and it got me thinking about whether that is truly what I desire. --- Watched How to Take a Digital Note, by Tiago Forte . Nowadays, there'

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff!

I started reading this book recently. Here's some points that I love.  Point 7 - Don't Interrupt Others or Finish Their Sentences. Interrupting people makes them think and speak faster. Which makes them nervous and frustrated. How can we listen when we're speaking for that person? This makes it even more annoying as nobody likes not being listened to.  It's easy to change right away. Just tell yourself to be patient and wait your turn before you start a conversation. Notice yourself whenever you want to interrupt and let the person finish their own sentences. People will start to feel calmer around you. You'll too feel more relaxed and enjoy better conversations.  Point 12 - Let Others Be "Right" Most of The Time. I always want to be right so this point intrigued me. Seldom do people thank someone for correcting them.  People often resent the person for correcting their position.  When people say something, it's often something they believe and have k

What Do Headlines Do?

Today, I felt under the weather. Couldn't pinpoint what was causing my lethargy. Decided to take the day off.  I read The Copywriter's Handbook by Robert W. Bly. I learnt how headlines performed four tasks.  1. Get attention. E.g. Want Perfect Skin, Try This New Miracle Formula! 2. Select the audience. E.g. Want to Start an Online Business in 30 Minutes? 3. Deliver a complete message. E.g. Free Tips to Improve Your Writing from the Top Copywriters 4. Draw the reader into the body copy.  E.g. The Three Differences Between an Expert and Amateur Photographer Practice makes perfect.  Love, Brienne, 9 March 2022, 10.04 p.m.

3 things I've learnt from writing

Image
(click image to view source) First post of the year and I would like to start over with introductions and why I am here.  My purpose of writing daily is to be a better writer. To share my thoughts. There's so much we can learn from one another.  I read my past entries and threads on twitter. The same thoughts/words keep coming up. "Out of a 100 shitty posts, there'll be 2 or 3 really good ones" "Writing daily is key." "You can only analyse and learn from data when you have enough data". Austin Kleon also mentioned not showing your breakfast but Show your work! Here's a brief plan of how I intend to use this space.  Everyday, I will write for 15 minutes or more. The goal is to be consistent so I form a habit of writing. I will publish the following day after I've written my post for the day. Thoughts that require more thinking will come out in a post on Sunday.  Some learning points from my previous entries: 1. Summarising people's ideas
